Simply Knitted Baby Sweater
Tue 9/28, 10/19, & 11/9
For the safety of our students and teachers, if you are not fully vaccinated, please let us schedule you a private Zoom class.
What a perfect first sweater! This is a casual and forgiving pattern, and it all begins with a little gauge swatch. Pick your yarn, do a little swatching to find the needle you like, decide whether you want to fit a smallish baby or a largish baby (I told you it was a casual pattern) and off we go!
Instructor: Jean Carter
Prerequisites: Basic knitting skills. You just need to be able to knit, purl, cast on and bind off.
Homework: Cast on 20 stitches and work stockinette stitch until the piece is squarish. Use a size of needle close to what the yarn calls for on the ball band. If you like the feel of the fabric you have made, you are all set. If it’s too loose or too stiff, change needles and try again until you like it. Bigger needles loosen up the fabric, smaller needles tighten it up. NOTE: Don’t bind off the top of the swatch, leave a yard of yarn (or a whole ball) attached, and bring it to the first class.]
Skills Learned: Knitted cast on, ribbing, seaming, basic buttonhole.
Materials Required: Pattern Simply Knitted Baby Sweater by Cindy Walker. You can use pretty much any baby-safe yarn from sport to chunky for this sweater, but we have an adorable version in the shop done in Island Cotton that I recommend. I advise waiting until the buttonholes are made to buy the buttons.
All class materials must be purchased from Warm n Fuzzy.
