Time to Stretch
Thu 1/16 & 1/30
5-7 pm

Sometimes we all just need a little more room. Bind offs, especially, can be too tight for the top of our sock or the edge of our lacy shawl. Many patterns will simply say, “Bind off with a stretchy bind off.” There are many clever ways to do this, each with its own good points.

We will explore, time allowing, 5 bind offs, 2 cast ons, and an edge technique to add some “give” to our projects. Students should be comfortable with basic casting on and binding off.

Instructor:  Jean Carter

Prerequisites:  basic to intermediate knitting skills

Homework:  For the first class, use a solid-color, light-color yarn in a medium weight (DK or worsted) to make swatches. Cast on 12 sts and work in garter stitch (knit every row) for about 10 rows. Leave about a yard of working yarn on each and don't bind off. Make 3 of these. Also make 1 swatch of the same size in 2x2 ribbing and another in 1x1 ribbing. Be sure to bring your needles to class (approximately size 6 to 8-- gauge not necessary).
