Learn the latest rage in crocheting—a little like knitting, a little like weaving, lots of possibilities—while making a washcloth and scarf.


Instructor:  Jean Carter


Target Student:  A little bit of experience crocheting. Rusty skills welcome.


Homework:  None


Skills Learned: 

  • Foundation chain and pick up row.
  • Edge management.
  • Tips about “curling.”
  • Finishing row.
  • Color changing.

Materials Required:  One ball of DK or worsted cotton or cotton/linen blend suitable for washcloth. Pacolet or Blue Sky Cotton(Get two colors if you want stripes, accents, etc.).


Two colors of worsted wool or wool blend for the scarf, about 350-400 yards total


Afghan hook: A size I or J will be best for these projects. These are available on Amazon and frequently at Joann’s. Susan Bates makes 10-inch hooks that are inexpensive and of good quality.


Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.


Patterns for the Purl Soho Washcloth and Col. Brandon Scarf

will be provided.
