VIRTUAL CLASS! Faberge Shawl
Wed 3/31, 4/21, & 5/12
These classes will be held via Zoom. You will receive a link to the zoom sessions after registration.
Like the intricate eggs it was named after, this shawl is a treat for the eyes, and the varying techniques make it a treat to knit. Be sure to choose 2 colors of yarn that contrast enough to show the filigree-like pattern.
Instructor: Jean Carter
Prerequisites: Basic knitting skills and the willingness to learn new maneuvers.
Homework: I won’t ask you to work a gauge swatch, because you need to know the techniques to do that. We will be working the swatch in class as we go along. If you normally need to adjust needle size bigger or smaller, plan to do that. Also make a practice piece of any yarn and suitable sized needles. Cast on 21 sts. Knit one row. Have this ready for first class.
Skills Learned: Beading on knitting, mitered corner, horizontal braid, overlay stitch, simple lace.
Materials Required: Fabergé pattern by Laura Aylor. Choose your size and obtain the amount of yarn you will need-- between 425 and 825 yards of fingering-weight yarn. Note that the pleated edge color requires more yarn than the color at the top.
Get size 6/0 seed beads (see pattern for numbers.) The best beads for knitters are Toho brand from Japan, and these are available at Michael’s among other places and online. It’s kind of a mystery how many beads are in a 9 gram package but I THINK it is about 150. You might need to get home and count them!
For the second class you will need 1 or 2 pieces of Oral B Superfloss. This is the kind that comes in individual pieces that are fuzzy and have stiff plastic ends.
All class materials must be purchased from Warm n Fuzzy.
